Maison M. Chapoutier has a presence in the Rhône Vally since 1808 and has its roots in the exceptionnal vineyard of Hermitage.
After seven generations, Maison M. Chapoutier, based in Tain l'Hermitage, today boasts one of the finest estates in the Rhône Valley. Its vineyards have gradually spread and diversified at the heart of the best terroirs: Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Côte Rotie, Condrieu and Châteuneuf du Pape to name a few.
One of the jewels in this crown is undoubtedly its exceptionnal vineyards in Hermitage: more than 79 acres of vines from the oldest plots on the hillside.
The originality and unique signature of Maison M. Chapoutier lies in the desire not to cultivate its own "specific taste", a set style, but rather in its desire to continuously work on differences of taste, those small specific touches specific to each terroir.
Maison M. Chapoutier, aware of the need to respect the earth, has adopted organic and biodynamic cultivation methods with no chemical herbicides, pesticides or fertilisers ever used. This demanding method of cultivation has become a genuine philosophy for the Maison M. Chapoutier. An unflinching desire: to ensure that soils are living and as expressive as possible.
"Wine is the combination of two forces — the magnetic force of the earth and the cosmic force of the sun. The winemaker’s art consists of encouraging the accumulation of these two energies with the grape up to the point of harvest.”
— Michel Chapoutier
